High School Scholarships – Nov. 13 Update

Eve’s Addiction Scholarship

Remember me telling you that many organizations give away scholarships and they all come up with creative ways to do so?  Well, this is a great example of this.  According to their website, Eve’s Addiction deals with exquisite sterling silver jewelry and they have devised a $1,000 scholarship opportunity for high school seniors and college students.  To apply simply write a 500-word essay answering one of the following questions:  (1) How can the Web give a company a competitive advantage? Or (2) How will you use your “personal shine” to make a difference?   So here’s a great opportunity to do a little Christmas shopping and work on your scholarship applications at the same time!  Deadline: December 15, 2013.

Just make a video!

Engineering for You Video Contest

It’s the National Academy of Engineering’s 50th anniversary and they are sponsoring a video contest with a $25,000 first prize and a $5,000 “People’s Choice Award”.  In addition, the top videos in each competition category are eligible for a prize of up to $5,000.  Students (or teams) from 6th grade through college are invited to submit a one-to-two minute video showing engineering contributions that serve human welfare and the needs of society occurring anywhere during the time period from 1964 to 2064.  Read all the rules, create your video, fill out the entry form and upload your video to YouTube!  According to the website, videos will be judged based on creativity, anticipated breadth of public appeal and effectiveness in highlighting engineering achievements.    Deadline: March 31, 2014.

Foot Locker Scholar Athletes

This program honors student athletes who demonstrate excellence in school, on their sports teams and in their communities.  Twenty winners will each receive $20,000 in scholarship funding for college (dispersed evenly over a four-year period).   To apply, you will need to submit information on your academics, your sport, answer two essay questions (about sports) and obtain one non-family recommendation.  The deadline is December 19, 2013.
